Another Crack at Chatton....
Yet another terrible fishing experience on the whiteadder, caught a few trout but they were smaller than small, so it was back to Chatton for another crack at the monster trout. Best time to go this time of year is around 4pm and stay for a few hours to catch the trout rising, the last time i was there i lost a fly that was working great, so a trip to Gamefair in Berwick was in order, i stocked up on the "Hares Ear" fly hoping the fish would go mad for it again as last time.
Got to Chatton to see the lake already buzzing with activity, trout were everywhere, a few were getting caught on top, i tried the hares ear but unfortunately it wasn't happening this time...i stayed for three hours and not so much as a nibble...really starting to get frustrated now.
I must be doing something wrong, i think its time to radically change things, I'm going to change my leader, my line and everything to be honest, I'm going to look online for successful fly fishing on still water techniques and when Ive done all that I'll hit Chatton again.....watch this space...

Chatton Fishery Northumberland
Back to Chatton for another crack at the monster trout with my brother in-law, this time i went at around 5pm and stayed for 4 hours to catch the "rise" which to be honest made little difference.
Nothing really happened for the first hour, i tried fly after fly wet and dry but nothing, then i decided to fish deep and used i gold headed hares ear, this worked a treat as after my second cast with a slow retrieval, Bang! a small trout compared to whats in the lake but it wasn't in any mood to be caught, after about a minute it managed to get itself unhooked and i lost it, i wasn't all that bothered to be fair, i was just happy I'd found a fly that they were going for.
around two or three casts later, Bang! another awesome take, this time it was a big trout and definitely the heaviest trout I've ever hooked into, with my polarising sunglasses i could clearly see it was a whopper, after losing the first trout i wasn't so aggressive with this one, but after a minute or so again it managed to unhook itself, if you have ever lost a big fish then you will know how this feels, i wanted to scream and shout and swear like Robson green, but i don't think the lads fishing nearby would have been amused.
After that disaster struck, i got my killer fly tangled on something and lost it, the only fly i had that was catching fish and i lose it, i tried other flies but nothing.
My brother in-law had better luck using a buzzer, he hooked two, lost one, landed one, a nice plump rainbow trout.
Well i will be back, I'll be stocking up on the hares ear and will be back at chatton very shortly, i will land a monster trout before the end of the year!
the picture below is a hares ear fly.

Chatton Trout Fishing
Due to the heatwave and lack of rain it was a trip back to Chatton for a bit of still water fishing, Chatton trout fishery is a fantastic place, three lakes fully stocked with trout, i stayed for four hours on the £12 catch and release option, it was a disappointing day as i didn't get so much as a nibble.
This lack of action wasn't down to the place or the fish it was down to my set up and severe lack of still water experience, as it was a hot and bright day the fish were down deep, if i had of gone later in the evening when the fish rise i would have most probably had a lot more luck.
Never mind i will learn from this and will be back to try again soon, I'm determined to have a good day at Chatton.

Heatwave
No end in sight to this heatwave, should never complain about a nice summer, but wish it would rain for a bit to let the river levels rise a bit..Chatton is looking likely sometime this week.
